Carbon brushes are devices that transmit signals or energy between the fixed and rotating parts of some motors or generators. The role of the carbon brush is: the carbon brush conducts current between the moving parts of the motor and can transfer the current from the fixed end to the rotating part of the generator or motor. In a DC motor, it also undertakes the task of commutating (rectifying) the alternating electromotive force induced in the armature winding.
