The function and working principle of the commutator

Commutator function

The commutator mainly plays the role of rectification to ensure that the direction of the electromagnetic torque remains unchanged.
1. When it is turned to balance with the magnet, the wire that was originally connected to the electricity will be separated from the brush on the corresponding commutator, and the motor will rotate.
2. Make the current direction in the armature winding alternate to ensure that the direction of the electromagnetic torque remains unchanged.
3. In the generator, the commutator can change the alternating potential in the element to the DC potential between the brushes. 4. In the motor, it can change the applied DC current into the AC current in the component, and generate torque in a constant direction.

How the commutator works
When the coil passes through the current, it will rotate through the attraction and repulsion under the action of the permanent magnet. When it turns to balance with the magnet, the wire that was originally energized will be separated from the brushes by the contacts on the corresponding commutator. Leave, and the brushes are connected to the contacts corresponding to the set of coils that generate the driving force, and this repeats continuously, and the DC motor turns. If there is no commutator, the motor will only be stuck in less than half a turn.
